However, in the 1980s, French materials scientist Joseph Davidovits proposed an alternative theory. He suggested that instead of hauling pre-cut blocks to the site, the Egyptians might have constructed the pyramids by making the blocks in place. According to Davidovits, this involved pouring ancient concrete, which he called geopolymer, into molds to form the blocks on site. T his method would have required fewer laborers, as they would only need to transport sacks of moist geopolymer concrete to forms positioned precisely where each block was needed.
